Dr. Ruth Elwood Martin (she/her)
Dr. Ruth Elwood Martin (she/her) is a CGSHE Faculty Member and Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. In 2017, she was cluster lead of the Transformative Justice Network and research lead/ co-lead on a number of research projects with CGSHE/UBC. In her research, she introduced the unique concept of engaging women in prison, prison staff and academics in participatory health research to address concerns raised by the women themselves. In 2013, she was co-principal investigator for the Bonding Through Bars project. In March 2014, Dr. Martin and the Collaborating Centre for Prison Health and Education developed best practice evidence-based Guidelines for the Implementation of Mother-Child Units in Canadian Correctional Facilities.
