Dr. Mary Kestler (she/her)

Dr. Mary Kestler is a CGSHE Faculty Member and Clinical Assistant Professor in Infectious Diseases Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Kestler is the SHAWNA Project Site Principal Investigator at Oak Tree Clinic and Study Physician. She is an Infectious Diseases specialist with particular expertise in HIV, TB, Global Health and Tropical Medicine. From 2008-2012 she lived in Botswana where she served as a TB/HIV advisor to the Ministry of Health and helped to develop the Department of Medicine at the University of Botswana Medical School. Today she works in Vancouver at St. Paul’s Hospital and the Oak Tree Clinic, a provincial referral centre for women and children living with HIV at BC Women’s Health Centre. She previously worked at Vancouver Native Health, Portland Hotel Clinic, and the Vancouver Women’s Health Collective. She is currently developing the Infectious Diseases curriculum for the UBC medical school. In 2020, she was awarded the UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
